Wow, this is a new level of puerile comedy I never expect. I’m lost for words..

“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.”

Me meditating on Thumper’s famous line. 🧘‍♂️ This old fogey shall go back to watching Bambi.

Dase • 1 year ago

Yeah I am dropping this, the donghua is heading into a direction that is disappoints all the efforts that were made prior to the lockdown. I dont mind changes from the novel but I am loss for words. Only words I can think up of to say is that the studio probably got themselves a live-action drama script writer, they always have a total disregard for the source material

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

I really hate to be making fun of one of my favourite Chinese novels. Lately after reading PW, I began to reflect on all the good stuffs that attracted me to DD: the magnificent world building, the fascinating cultivation system and most of all the charismatic and charming MC. Now, where has it all gone?

Dase • 1 year ago

Covid ate the brain cells of the scriptwriter, it's gone.. gone gone...

I was hoping that things would go back to normal, it didnt then I was hoping that the changes would not disappointed I was sorely disappointed

Lies!! I tell you all lies!! They broke their promises about the episodes returning to normal, even announced it on their weibo, and I copy pasta it here, then.... lies!!! I am not going to post anything from them, until I know for sure they arent lying lol

(Would have helped if they explained that due to lockdown or something they are back to minimal staff again, but nothing, just weibo posts about Xiao Wu and other stuff)

douluo • 1 year ago

Honestly...my head is swirling. I don't even know where to begin expounding on everything wrong here lol. Which kills me to say because production had such a long string of good adaptation decisions early on, especially the animators.

I'll continue watching with very guarded optimism, but at this point it'll be with my hands covering my face, peeking though my fingers.

It would have made more sense if they stick to TS’s acting innocent instead of the bunny because
a.) TS’s shocking red rings and his trident are not everyday affairs hence it’s way more impactful if he was the one who acted as the bumbling amateur.
b.) TS actually invented a soul ring disguise skill after reflecting on the strikingness of his rings.

I can go on.. but sigh the damage is done.

douluo • 1 year ago

Exactly. Making XW the focal point, without TS, missed the whole point of that scene. Even the part that otherwise would have pleasantly surprised me--XW kicking ass--was ruined with childish comedy. They literally were using music tracks that have historically been reserved for intrigue/suspense, then thirty seconds later change their mind and turn it into a comedic romp. WTF??? If they wanted a comedy TS HAD to be there, otherwise let XW fight seriously. But both doesn't work lol.

Then we got multiple cut-away shots to more contextless battle strategery that once again did more to confuse than advance the story.

Dase • 1 year ago

I am going to cry myself to sleep, I am exhausted from a long shift, and to suddenly see this episode like this more than cause my brains to shut down, I better not write any more things that I might regret when I am fully awake lol

Dase • 1 year ago

The only way to salvage this is to lie to ourselves, and think that Xiao Wu and Tang San swapped bodies while he absorbs the ring , so Xiao Wu is actually Tang San and vice versa :P

Farfetched I know, but workable lol

LordSin • 1 year ago

it got worse after the sea god island... making up sh*t left and right... i can understand the fights but what's the point of this one here!!

douluo • 1 year ago

BINGO

Dase • 1 year ago

Absolutely in agreement there

douluo • 1 year ago

EXACTLY. The whole tone is different, which is ALWAYS a determinant in win/fail. It feels like there's been a major crew/production change post SG island (maybe even during idk). But something is OFF.

Dase • 1 year ago

If I have to guess it is due to covid lockdown and most importantly the original team, specifically the scriptwriter went over to Soul Land 2, that is my guess

douluo • 1 year ago

I'd bet my bottom dollar that's exactly what happened. Everything feels phoned in.

MO MA • 1 year ago

i stopped watching after seeing the first eps after the god of sea arc but i ended up coming back, i didn't really notice all the trash useless plots and the useless talk since i skiped them (which feels really great LOL) but yeah for someone who keep waiting for 1 eps a whole week this shxt isn't worthy, especially when the novel is way better you feel like you are just forcing yourself to watch this .... BTW i skipped all the talk of xiao wu before the fight and almost all the fight, the talk was cringy and boring and the fight was useless just to drag things

Dase • 1 year ago

I was doing the same lol, skimming through the episode to try and match what was in the novel, this is why sometimes I wasnt exactly aware of what happened in the episode, but this episode was the last straw

You are right the novel is much much better, and people who read it would know that the final arc adaptation is very disappointing, I am more of a fan of the novel than the donghua. If I wanted more disappointment I would have watched the live action adaptation which bears little resemblance to the source material.

vio • 1 year ago

I have to ask, in the novel did those guys that Tang San killed attack his parents? I watched a preview from a few episodes earlier and it was mentioned but I wasnt sure if it was taken from the novel or manga.

Dase • 1 year ago

They were no where near his parents. In the novel after Tang San resurrects Xiao Wu, he starts to revive his mother, he then collapses in exhaustion and after a month he recovers and goes out with Xiao Wu to hunt for rings, leaving his father to guard his mother while she was in a cocoon state. Tang San then encounters the group of Martial Spirit Hall members, they were out hunting for rings as well if I remember correctly, and there was one elder the rest were youngsters. Tang San then kills all of them, and his mother then awakens. At no point where they attacked
Tang San then went back to the pool with Xiao Wu and there, they decide to return to the Haotian Sect, again at no point where they attacked
If you are refering to what happened in the past when they were trying to kill Ah Yin for her rings, Tang Hao pretty much defeated all of them, but the novel doesnt have Tang San killing those directly responsible, except maybe for the Ghost Douluo and Chrysanthemum Douluio

vio • 1 year ago

nah, the way the woman was talking in the video it was supposed to happen in these episodes as a recent event but it seems like it didnt happen.

Dase • 1 year ago

Ahh, the studio is making a lot of bold moves lol

vio • 1 year ago

yea I noticed. I remember when I gave you that list of tv shows to check out, you mentioned about China being homophobic with what content was allowed to be viewed in their laws and we had the accidental male on male kiss in today's episode which was pretty funny.

Dase • 1 year ago

I think accidental is OK since it is meant to be funny, but when it is intentional of same same is being done then the censorship will step in, since they will view it as promoting same same sexuality
Kind of like cross dressing, if a man dresses up as a female like in Feng Qi Luoyang Zhi Shen Ji Shaonian it is ok, but if you have a man who dresses up in female clothes because of his fetish then it wouldnt be, of course the censorship board is very fickle, I would say it sometimes censor things just to keep studios on their toes

vio • 1 year ago

that video I mentioned before was something like this one...
www .youtube. com /watch?v=t0C0CHM3csk

Dase • 1 year ago

Oh, the one you linked I know her lol, I mean know of her, she is based her video from what she read from the novel, but the novel never had his parents in danger at all even when they returned back to the Haotian sect, Ah Yin definitely wouldnt be hurt by anyone there since Tang Xiao would have protected her with his life lol

vio • 1 year ago

it was a few weeks back so I dont remember the video now completely just that it was one of her's where she gave an overview of what was happening. What she said in this video looks good but will probably be 2-4 episodes worth and I'm looking forward to Tang San beating them a bit for the disrespect about his mother and for adding stress to the previous leader of the sect that added to his death.

Dase • 1 year ago

Let's hope the studio doesnt make drastic changes to what was in the novel lol

The-Fallen-Light-Demon • 1 year ago

I will never drop this series, I read novel all soul Land series and still waiting if they animated Soul Land 2 or not

Smiley Face • 1 year ago

It is being animated, Dase translated a promotional announcement from the author about the same studio currently developing Soul Land 2, 5 months ago on episode 166. She will probably reply to you with the trailer when she wakes up.

Dase • 1 year ago

They already started developing Soul Land 2, you can watch TJSS announce it on https : // youtu . be / jYOLAT6aVSk
Just remove the spaces, and if you need the translation it is on episode 166

Dase • 1 year ago

It comes out every Saturday 10:00am China time, then it will take some time for fansub translators to work on it and after that it depends on when gogo manages to grab them from the fansubs and upload it here

It's already out on Tencent streaming, I am staring at it right now on an offsite

Guest • 1 year ago
Dase • 1 year ago

Sadly this is the reason why I am dropping it, I dont want my memories of the novel be corrupted lol

Robert • 1 year ago

I mean we sure it’s not XW 😂

Dase • 1 year ago

Another update (I know some of you guys are sick of it lol)

For those interested and missed my post on Wanmei Shijie, Doupo Cangqiong's and Wudong Qiankun's author's other works called Da Zhu Zai (The Great Ruler, a "sequel" to both) is said to be releasing in 3D on the 14 October 2022

The following is the trailer that was released back in May 2021

https : // youtu . be / 5auqkEa0Dc8

Just removed the spaces

It has a 2d animation released, so if you want to have a look at that it is on gogo, I am not sure whether the upcoming 3d version will be a reboot or the second season, anyway back to dropping Soul Land. I will be around just, not going to watch it anymore, my heart is broken 😢😢😢

Otacultist • 1 year ago

Yo! Do you know if Yi Nian Yong Heng is getting another season? That was one of my favs.

Dase • 1 year ago

Yes the second season, Yi Nian Yongheng: Chuancheng Pian will start streaming on the 20 Jul 2022 for 52 episodes according to a news source, so in about two days time, but how fast it will be uploaded on gogo is dependent on the translation group and gogo

OfficialDrixMalone • 1 year ago

Seriously?! I'm too excited now, that's only 10 days from now!! This year has just been full of surprises.

douluo • 1 year ago

Soul Land has officially lost its Soul. I'll continue watching in the vain hope they find it again..

RohanOf ElvenPower • 1 year ago

this is so trash and childish. I stil cant believe I binged the first 100 episdes back then and got hooked up to this. soul land is looking more childish and bad the more time passes. its literally made for little kids..

Robert • 1 year ago

Yeah I think we’ve had a load of quality Xianxia series which have taken over in terms of animation and story craft.

To be fair Soul Land has always had these stupid ‘comedy’ skits - plenty with Oscar and Fatty for instance.

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

But but but… Oscar is funny and the bunny is not!

Robert • 1 year ago

No doubt - they even make it worse by having TS praise her acting 😂

OfficialDrixMalone • 1 year ago

I honestly think neither are funny, quite cheesy and pointless. The comedy in donghua and anime usually aren't funny to me, seems like asian culture on comedy is vastly different than on the western. It's like child level comedic lines that's cringe, it used to have me wondering was there something wrong with me aha. But if they'd quit using that type of "comedy" and maybe hire new writers, it'd be more enjoyable for me.

vio • 1 year ago

I'm liking the new version of the 8 stage drop. ;)

Zhang Qiling • 1 year ago

Am I the only one who kinda forcing myself to watch at this point cause I just wanna know how the story will end? Like shit became so boring, nonsensical, and draggy that it hurts! Also am tired of XIao Wu, everything became revolved around her, I wanna see Tang San deal with and defeat Bibi Dong and the other angel bitch, not watch romance bullshit, I did appreciate the romance before between the characters, but now it's irritating as hell.

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

I’m afraid we’re just a vocal minority. It’s shocking if you go to the Chinese DD page on Weibo, 99.9% of the posts were about XW. When I scrolled down the page, screenshots of her were plastered from the very first to the very last post. So it’s unsurprising that the production studio is giving fan service to the very active bunny fans, after all they are the most active and vocal group. It’s all about who’s having the dominant position. What a shame, they succumbed to popular demands at the expense of good storytelling.

Dase • 1 year ago

The studio is promoting Xiao Wu with pictures, screenshots, questions all for those male weibo users pretending to be female, so no surprise there lol

That is why I only read important posts from the studio and usually ignore the followers, the posts on Tencent Streaming is more balanced, and more about the show, comparison between the novel and donghua. Raging single guys who dreamgirl has rabbit ears tend to get shutdown pretty quickly lol

Without getting into the political side of censorship, the new regulation in China might make these bunnyboys think harder about posting things on weibo

"According to the new rules, internet users must disclose real career information if the account they register and use requests such data, and
providers of online-publishing and instant-messaging services must verify the identity provided by each user.

The rules also require internet service providers to display the location information of users on their posts or account pages."

The last part will be scary

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

Has the new Internet law been put into effect? I do surf Weibo occasionally and I’m surely not thrilled to have my location or any personal data displayed for everyone to see.

As for XW, I don’t get the fetish for bunny ears or anything bunny like. Nothing against cute girls who love bunny cosplays but they turn me off, including guys who drool over (playboy) bunnies. Then again, maybe I’m just an old geezer!
